Privacy - What content can be verified, divulged or disclosed in a letter of reference?

If anyone asks about the confidentiality of LORs, have them email help@carms.ca (can transfer it to compliance if appropriate). If an applicant is asking to receive a copy of their LORs, follow the Process: an applicant is requesting to see their letters of reference but do not mention this as an option.  

The letter of reference is a confidential document, but CS can verify, divulge or disclose three elements of the document to an applicant:

1. The date on the document, if uploaded or mailed by the reference provider, and if it's signed. 
2. If it has met the request specifics i.e. general letter VS discipline specific 
3. Language of the document i.e. English or French 

If the applicant feels the letter doesn't meet their specification, it is their responsibility to contact the reference provider for an update.
