BCIMG – CAP

  • All IMG’s wishing to apply to BC programs starting in the 2018 match, and beyond. It is a mandatory evaluation in order to be eligible to apply to programs in BC. Ops will flag them.
  • US osteopaths must take the CAP assessment.
  • CAP positions are open to final-year international medical students and international medical graduates who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents. 
  • The CAP is valid for one match cycle.
  • Results should be shared with CaRMS from UBC to upload in the next 3 weeks following the exam date.  
  • A combination of MCCQE and National Assessment Collaboration (NAC) exam scores will be used to select candidates for a CAP position.
  • Over the course of the one-day assessment (known as the Structured Clinical Examination), we will be exploring candidate’s clinical skills, communication skills and clinical reasoning through a series of six case-based oral stations. Having strong communication skills and clinical experience will position you to perform well in this exam. We wish to identify candidates who demonstrate good potential for success in residency training and suitability for working in communities across B.C.
  • If the old BC IMG Assessment is in place, the new document named CAP will take precedence.
  • There is no pass/fail, just a score.

QCIMG

  • All IMG's interested in applying to Québec you must first obtain recognition of the equivalence of their Doctor of Medicine degree through the CMQ.
  • The procedure to obtain recognition of equivalence of a degree does not always lead to admission to postgraduate programs, which are the prerogative of universities. http://www.cmq.org/page/en/reconnaissance-equivalence-diplome.aspx http://www.cmq.org/page/en/pret-a-exercer.aspx
  • CaRMS will receive a list from BCI, confirming which IMG has been flagged as REGULAR and or PARTICULAR (second iteration of R-1 only) and able to apply to Québec.
  • As per usual – the lists will be saved on GARY: You can refer to it and know it is THE MOST RECENT. REMEMBER, the applicant must be flagged with an ''R'' in the list for the first iteration of R-1.

AIMG

  • IMG-designated residency positions in Alberta, all IMGs (including those in their final year of medical school outside of Canada or the United States) must apply to and be assessed by the AIMG Program.   • We will receive a list from AIMG, confirming which IMG has been flagged as able to apply to Alberta programs. The lists will be saved on GARY (same spot as above, top of article).
