Interview period at a glance and common questions

  • It is entirely up to programs to decide which applicants they want to interview.
  • All programs participating in a match must assign an interview status in CaRMS Online to all applicants that have applied to their program.
  • The Interview Offer Status tool function becomes available in file review and remains open until the ranking deadline.
  • Interview offer statuses should be completed by programs prior to sending out official interview invitations.

Second Iteration 

There is no set interview period due to the compressed timeline. Interviews can take place anytime between the opening of file review and the rank order list deadline. 

Post-match process

Interview arrangements are made between the PGME/program and applicants. The Interview Offer Status tool is disabled during the PMP.

Policies

The following interview policies were approved by the AFMC and apply to all CaRMS matches:

  • Interviews will continue to be in a virtual format for all, including local candidates.
  • Synchronous interviews, such as panel interviews and Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI), are allowed.
  • Asynchronous interviews are allowed.

Common questions and inquiries received from applicants:

  • I just received an interview but there’s nothing noted in my Interview Offer Status. The program did not update the interview offer status tool prior to sending out the interview invitation. These two things are not related and are independent of each other.
  • I’m still waiting to receive an interview offer. When will I know if I have any interviews? Programs are required to assign an Interview Offer Status by the date indicated in the match timeline. NOTE: This doesn’t apply to second iteration or PMP.
