Ranking period at a glance
- Match results are binding and programs should only rank applicants they are willing to train and applicants should only rank programs they are willing to train at.
- Programs are under no obligation to rank all applicants who have applied to their program and applicants are under no obligation to rank all programs they applied to.
- The program must submit their rank order list for PGME approval and the PGME must approve the rank order list by the required deadline set out in the match timeline.
- The rank order list deadline is final.
Compassion Period Policy
The Compassion Period policy allows applicants who have experienced legitimate hardship that are outside of their control to not be penalized if they are unable to meet a deadline. This Compassion Period runs from the close of the Match Milestone Deadline to 9:00AM the following morning.
Do not share this policy with applicants. If an applicant contacts you about not finalizing their ROL in time or indicates an issue with the ROL they submitted, assign the ticket to compliance or if a call/chat ask the applicant to send an email to compliance@carms.ca
Quota
In addition to submitting rank order lists, the PGME is also required to submit program quota for each participating program. Quota is the number of allocated positions in a program. The deadline by which to finalize program quota is set out in the match timeline.
Reversions
Reversions allow the PGME an opportunity to transfer unfilled positions (quota) from one program to another program that has extra training capacity with the goal of maximizing outcomes.
Positions can only be transferred from a program to another program during the running of the match if it has positions that have not been filled. The deadline by which to finalize program reversions is set out in the match timeline.
